What is a Memory Bear?

You may see memory bears advertised or just cruising our website. But what is one? They are bears that are made from a special article of clothing, a blanket, or anything that may hold a special memory. Most often we are making bears for those who have lost a loved one. But we also make them to capture a special memory, celebrate a new baby, a child going off to college. The bears are there to hug when you need that extra love or connection to the memory or person. 

Why are our bears special?

Each of our bears are 18 inches tall. They are overstuffed so they are soft and don’t lose their cuddliness over time. Love is put into each bear. Every bear is made by itself. We are not mixing clothes or putting them with other orders. That way scents and memories remain with each bear. Embroidery is also offered. We have a standard poem or you can create your own message. Maybe a nickname, funny saying or a special message. We love it when a special note is sent with the clothing chosen. It gives us a connection to the bear. We love the happy memories attached. We have learned about so many amazing people and their amazing connections to others. 

What is the process for ordering and sewing a bear?

After an order is placed through our website an email is sent to the client. They are given instructions where to send their clothing and to provide a tracking a number. We also offer local drop-off. We are located in Joliet, Illinois and have many clients from neighboring communities. After your clothing is received the box is checked in and is ready to be made. The box is not opened until your bear is ready to be cut and sewn. We do not want it getting mixed up with anyone else’s order. When yours is ready to be sewn we will open your box and decide how to cut your bear. We always try to use pockets, graphics, logos or anything else on the clothing. After your bear is cut it sewn together and stuffed with poly fil. After being stuffed it hand sewn closed to give it that handmade touch.

Are there certain items best for bears?

We can use almost anything for a bear. We prefer to use the following clothing items.

• T shirts
• Button down shirts
• Pants
• Pajamas
• Thin blankets
• Sweatshirts
• Dresses

We cannot use the following materials for bears. These tend to be bulky and difficult to sew.

• Winter Coats
• Leather Coats
• Fur Coats
• Jeans
• Thick Sweaters
• Thick Blankets
• Loose Weave Sweaters
